What is RON?
Understanding Remote Online Notarization
Remote online notarization — commonly abbreviated as RON — is a state-authorized process that allows a notary public and signer to complete a legally valid notarization through a secure video platform. There is no need to meet in person.
A RON notary uses approved technology to verify your identity through knowledge-based authentication (KBA) and government-issued ID analysis, then conducts a live video session in which you sign your document digitally. The notary then applies a tamper-evident digital seal.
Florida was among the first states to authorize remote online notarization and has one of the most robust RON frameworks in the country. Florida remote online notary services are accepted in all 50 states, Canada (subject to provincial regulations), and many international jurisdictions.
